There is a junction box that can be used to extend your wiring.
The power must be turned off first to do this. Then you have to cut the openings. A standard rectangular box, an octagonal box, or a 4 inch round box can be used.
There are slots in the mounting plate that allow this fixture to line up with a variety of box types. The top and sides of the fixture should be caulked. Just cut your hole out of your ceiling or soffit material, connect your wiring in a junction box as per code requirements, then push your recessed fixture up into the hole.
Many of our recessed fixtures are UL Listed and some are rated for use in damp or wet environments including outdoors. As long as the fixture is covered by a ceiling or roof above, you are good to go. For old work, you should verify there are no water leaks before doing your install. Switching and dimming Most customers prefer to have soffit lighting surrounding the majority of their home, but want to run them off a single switch or dimmer.
While running that many incandescent lights off a single dimmer tends to be too much load, LEDs have much lower power consumption and perform best when dimming multiple fixtures. This is just one more reason why LED is the way to go for your soffit lighting application. More information on VAC dimming can be found here. We also give you the ability to remotely locate your drivers, and we cover this more in depth in our recessed light install guide documents.
Because each light requires an individual driver and you cannot run multiple lights off a single driver, many of our customers choose to put all of their drivers in a single large junction box and run extension cables available on our website to the remote light locations.
Next, run the cable from the nearby junction box or from the distribution panel -Where the circuit breaker is housed- to your chosen mounting location.
The electric wire should run on the inside and only exit where the LED flood light will be mounted. Do not turn ON the circuit breaker yet. That will be the very last step. Mount it where it is easily accessible and indoors. Then run the cable to the switch first, before you run it to where you will mount the exterior light. Once the electric cable exits where you will do the mounting, you need to mount the outdoor light so that you can connect it to the wire. To do that, you need to drill holes that will match its mounting bracket.
You may use the bracket to draw an outline and the exact point where you will drill the holes.
